Happy Birthday Mackey...continued!

After story time, we went to Weaver Street with Ella and "Ella's Mommy" (and new baby Jakeb!) for lunch. Then it was time to go home for...cupcakes! The cupcakes were really Super Bowl cupcakes but Mackey loves a ball so I went with the theme :-) Yummmmmmmmmmm!

Then Nanny & Poppy came up to visit, yay! And they brought...cake! Singing, candle blowing, and more chocolatey sugar! We decided to have dessert before dinner of yummy homemade Chicken Pot Pie by Nanny. Between dessert and dinner, we went for an Efland sight-seeing tour in our new truck (blog post regarding the truck story to come soon).

It doesn't look like it here, but Mack is blowing out the candles, too. He just blows with his mouth almost shut, hee hee!

And what would a birthday be without a jam session with the neighbor????

Lastly, a birthday photo with mommy. I can't believe my little man is 2 years old. It seems like yesterday that he slept his first night with me in the hospital, snuggled up against my chest, so teeny tiny. And look at him now, so big!

Happy birthday Mackey!

Today our little man is 2 years old. I took today off work to celebrate with my guys and since it's Wednesday, I got to go to story time with Mack for the first time, yay!

Stay tuned for more birthday fun...Nanny & Poppy are on the way to play!

Fun at the park

We finally had a couple not-frigid days and all the ice has melted, hooray!

Mack & I needed to get out of the house today (things were a little tense between us after a failed nap attempt) so we loaded the tricycle in our sweet new ride and headed to Gold Park in Hillsborough. This park is so great because it has playground equipment, a paved trail on which Mack can practice his mad bike skills, and a train bridge over a creek - so cool. We didn't see a train today but Mack did make friends with an 8 year old and his 4 year old brother. Mack was able to do this evening what he couldn't do this morning on the church playground - convince the big kids to chase him! He had a blast and of course, I took pictures (but not of his new friends because I would feel weird taking pictures of stranger's children without their permission...).

Praise God for some warmer weather. Mack & I needed it!

"Walking" down the path. Mack was impersonating the guy who went flying by doing roller-skate tricks.

Checking out the new pedestrian bridge that goes underneath the train bridge.

Running!

Acting a little wary concerning the slide...before throwing himself down it.

The above is a picture from a trip to Gold Park a couple of weeks ago with Daddy.

We just bought a new CAR!!!!!!

Yayyyyyyy! We just turned in our Accord for a Fit. From a car with over 216,000 miles on it to one with 18. Wow! I have never bought a car before and did not realize it would take over 5 hours...yes, Mack was with us. But we survived and I think our budget will, too! Now it's time to drive it home. Woo hoo!!!!!

It's small but surprisingly roomie inside and packs a little punch (we got a 2010 Sport model)!

(We put 1 mile on it driving to Chick-fil-A for dinner.)

Mack calls it our new racecar.

We are so thankful to be blessed & in a position to buy this car.

Big Boy Bed

Mack climbed out of his crib at Mama C & Pop's house on Christmas Eve...and again on Christmas Day...and again the next day. So Richard & I went to Ikea and got him a big boy bed, new bedding, a bookshelf, and closet organizer. The bed is the sweetest, most adorable little thing ever. Mack has been sleeping in his big boy bed since Wednesday, December 29th.

I use the term "sleeping" very lightly. The picture above speaks volumes about bed time. This is definitely one of the more difficult chapters we've faced as parents. Nap time and bed time now involve much weeping and gnashing of teeth, quite literally. We've had several bed times that went without event but those are in the minority. As I write this, Richard is upstairs taking the 2nd shift of trying to get Mack to fall asleep and it's almost 10:00 pm. It's kind of like having a newborn again in that we do a lot of singing, rocking, and cradling Mack to sleep while he fights it with every ounce of his being.

Bless his little heart though, he's still so stinking cute. If he wakes up in the middle of the night, he shuffles into our bedroom and says "hi" in this little voice that just melts your heart. It's hard to be mad when he's so cute but, man, are we tired these days. The first morning that Mack pitter-pattered into our bedroom, Richard looked over at me and said, "You know this is what's it's really like to be parents, don't you?" We have arrived. He's not even 2 years old yet (just a few short days until his birthday, I can't believe it) but we're experiencing the fullness of what having a 2 year old means.

I plan to post more pictures of his revamped bedroom soon. We still have a little work left to do and once that's done, I'll show you all the cuteness. I hope at that time to be able to post about how well Mack is now sleeping in his bed. A mom can hope, right?

Christmas with Nanny & Poppy

We wrapped up our extended Christmas weekend with a visit to Nanny & Poppy's before heading home to Efland. They are always so much fun!

We had seen Nanny & Poppy two weeks before Christmas when Mack had an early taste of presents with them. But they surprised Mack with another gift on this visit - an "iPhone" (as Mack calls it)! Here he is on the drive home taking care of some business with an imaginary caller.

I love my new camera...

...though not as much as the subject of the photos of course.

Funny boy

Richard sent me this message today:

"Mack made me an entire pretend breakfast and is making me wear matching clothes with him."

Ha ha! What a mind of his own he's developing.
